Have you ever watched a favourite series and spotted a London venue or landmark? Our fair city’s venues pop up in all sorts of television circumstances. We’ve highlighted a few occasions where London was definitely the star of the show…
Killing Eve - Banking Hall
At the beginning of episode three, Banking Hall is featured in the scene where Villanelle kills a businessman by trapping his tie in a lift door and is recognized by its distinctive chequerboard floor. Banking Hall was previously known as former headquarters of Lloyds and this is featured through the horse logo and year 1677 at one of its striking floor design.
Banking Hall is a traditional and historic event venue, perfect for a range of events including conferences, evening reception, seated dinners, exhibitions and more! Located just a short walk from Bank tube station and Liverpool Street station, this grand venue can hold up to 800 guests for a standing reception in The Hall and 280 for a seated dinner. For conferences, The Hall can hold up to 300 delegates in theatre style and 180 in cabaret.
Additional event space at Banking Hall, is The Counting Room. With an abundance of natural light during the day and a sophisticated ambiance in the evening the Counting Room is guaranteed to impress, morning, noon and night. For a standing reception, The Counting Room can hold up to 280 guests for a standing reception and up to 120 for a seated meal. With regards to holding meetings and conferences, this event space can hold up to 120 delegates in theatre style and up to 80 in cabaret.
Enjoy exclusive use of both the Banking Hall and the Counting Room for events with 150-900 guests. Alternatively hire the Counting Room alone for an intimate dinner for 30-120 seated guests or host a standing reception for 100-280 guests.
The Crown -Royal College of Physicians
The Royal College of Physicians features in an episode of The Crown, to recreate an event the Queen attended at the Royal Opera House in 1968. The grand exterior proved to be a perfect fit for the scene in this award- winning Netflix series.
The Royal College of Physicians is a traditional and historic venue in central London looking over Regent’s Park, and consists of elements which are clean and contemporary, providing a mixture of interior design. It has event spaces to cater for a range of event needs including, conferences, sit down dinners, drinks receptions, exhibitions and more. With rooms flooded with natural daylight as well as outdoor event space, popular for Summer parties, this large London venue can cater for a range of event requirements.
The RCP Garden is ideal for a summer evening drinks reception, barbecue or al fresco dining. With light entertainment and creative lighting, the garden transforms into a truly unique space for special occasions.
The Wolfson Theatre can seat up to 304 guests in theatre for meetings and conferences with it’s Osler Room being perfect for standing receptions of up to 220 guests. The Osler Roo is great also for seated dinners and can sit up to 300 guests for large banquet events, including Christmas parties.
The Royal College of Physicians also is home to The Seligman theatre, a tiered auditorium that has 140 fixed seats with a registration and catering area directly adjacent to the auditorium and overlooks their medicinal garden.
Downtown Abbey - Granaio, Piccadilly
Formerly known as The Criterion this restaurant has been on the London dining scene in various forms since 1874. Luckily for us the décor has stayed true to its roots and a meal here will take you back to the early 1900’s. The stunning British décor is juxtaposed alongside an Italian menu dishing up some hearty fare.
The restaurant aptly features in the Downton episode where Edith Crawley meets Michael Gregson at the Criterion for dinner. She tells Michael that she never could have eaten at a public restaurant before the war, although her mother would allow the Ritz on very rare occasions. While they are here, Michael reveals his plans to become a German citizen so he can divorce his wife and marry Edith. Edith and Michael then share their first kiss.
