Control Room A... Launch Event and VIP Dinner

Friday 29 September 2023

Control Room A at Battersea Power Station

This week, Venue Search London's CEO, Sam Gill, was fortunate to be amongst 40 VIP guests to attend the launch of Control Room A at Battersea Power Station. Following an evening at the venue, here is Sam's review of the event and this impressive new London events venue...

From the moment we arrived at the private Director’s Entrance (well away from the busy shopping mall), there is a real VIP feel to this venue.  On arrival, a dedicated lift transported us straight to the reception area located on the second floor. Here we were greeted with a clean and contemporary space, where the approved caterers, Last Supper, offered beautifully presented cocktails and delicious canapés, whilst we were serenaded by a solo singer from production partners, Full Circle.

The call for dinner came and led us through to a long table, stretching alongside the iconic control panels that used to distribute the power to around a fifth of London. The Grade II listed Art Deco space has been expertly restored in close partnership with Historic England, with teak parquet floors, marble finishings and an elaborate gold-coffered glass ceiling; bringing Art Deco glamour to this stunning and unique space.

The dinner itself reflected the early autumn season, with a delicious “Forest Findings” vegetarian starter, followed by sustainably sourced roasted wild bass, served with a sea herb volute.  To keep the evening moving and encourage networking, we moved to the beautifully presented dessert station which was accompanied by more delicious cocktails to round off a very special evening.

Control Room A – Further Details and Capacities

The 1930s Control Room A can accommodate up to 250 guests for a standing reception and 100 for a more formal seated dinner; a space that celebrates the history of Battersea Power Station. From the restored switchboards and control panels to the Art Deco glass ceiling, this authentic space is an unforgettable setting for any  event type.

Control Room A is managed by Spaces and Stories and is the jewel in the crown of Battersea Power Station, a landmark on the London skyline and an important part of the city’s identity. The room was built to manage the distribution of electricity generated by the Power Station including Buckingham Palace. The station was decommissioned in 1975, after which point the building fell into disrepair.

The Grade II listed Art Deco space has been expertly restored by architects Wilkinson Eyre, with the original control panels and machinery have been returned to their former glory. The team used a host of new restoration techniques, including digital scanning, to exactly replicate the 1930s paint colours and 3D printing to produce missing knobs and buttons of the control desks.

After spending the evening at this impressive new venue, it really is the perfect setting for luxury brand activations, client receptions, high-end private dinners and parties as well as exclusive meetings.
